Water‐deficit stress alters intra‐panicle grain number in sorghum

چکیده
Despite the ability of sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] to withstand harsh environmental conditions, it is susceptible water-deficit stress during grain filling. To identify postflowering, drought-tolerant genotypes, parents nested association mapping populations were evaluated under controlled and conditions in greenhouse field conditions. In both experiments, was imposed by withholding water grain-filling period. rootzone soil moisture measured weekly using a neutron probe quantify plant available well-watered Investigations focused on determining variability pattern across different positions within panicles (intra-panicle) 11 genotypes. Water-deficit characterized low had consistently negative with number along panicle. Our findings indicate that maintaining numbers per panicle postflowering deficit more important than increasing individual weight. Among tested SC35 SC1103 most tolerant respectively. Currently biparental developed these genotypes provide an opportunity enhance tolerance sorghum.

Evaluation of grain yield in sorghum hybrids under water stress.
Sorghum grain yield can be significantly affected by climatic changes, especially drought and high temperature. The purpose of this study was to evaluate hybrids of grain sorghum grown under normal irrigation conditions or water stress in order to select those likely to be more tolerant of drought. Forty-nine hybrids were grown in a randomized block design experiment, with three replications. T...

Selecting and cultivating the crops/varieties that can tolerate water salinity is potentially animportant strategy to save fresh water resources and maximize the crop yield in salt affected areas. To evaluate the responses of 36 sorghum lines and cultivars to salinity stress, two fieldexperiments were conducted in non-stress (EC=2 dS/m) and salinity stress conditions (EC=12dS/m) using randomized...
متن کاملCross Hedging Grain Sorghum in Missouri
Annually between 1994 and 1998 over 400,000 acres of grain sorghum have been harvested in Missouri with an average yield of 86/bushels/acre. The average value of production during this period was over $90 million. Grain sorghum (milo) is an important crop for some Missouri producers. Many sorghum producers also produce corn, soybean, or wheat. Each of these commodities has an actively traded fu...

PhD thesis Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench), the fifth most important cereal crop in the world, is one of the most important staple crops in Africa and South Asia and represents the only viable food grain for many of the world’s most food insecure people. However, sorghum grain shares the typical nutritional deficiencies of cereal grains, a low content of several essential amino acids. There...

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) is the fifth important cereal crop after wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), maize (Zea mays L.), rice (Oryza sativa L.), and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in the world. It is cultivated in about 46 million ha with a total production of 62 million t (FAO 1998). Asia and Africa account 86% of the total area under sorghum, but their contribution towards total product...
